Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the incident left him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
