Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
